Rock Crawling
Share
RC crawling, short for Radio-Controlled rock crawling, is a specialized segment of the RC (radio-controlled) hobby that focuses on navigating rugged terrain, rocks, and obstacles with precision and control. Unlike traditional RC cars built for speed, RC crawlers are designed for slow, deliberate movement, emphasizing torque, suspension articulation, and traction. These vehicles often feature four-wheel drive, locked differentials, and high-clearance chassis to conquer steep inclines and uneven surfaces.
In the summer of 2025, Houston RC's hobbyists got together and started Rock Crawling! With close to 25 early adopters jumping on the 1/24 crawlers from Kyosho and Axial, we built a course and started crawling! You can join us too. Here's what you need to know.
Our Rules can be found here.
We recommend everyone new to crawling start in our Class 0, where the members voted on allowing a servo swap, wheels, tires and shocks on the Axial SCX24. For the Kyosho MiniZ4x4 all mods are allowed.
For experienced crawlers we recommend Class 1-2, where modifying is essential to run up front and modifying itself becomes a fun journey.
For those looking for an extreme challenge we recommend Class 3, where anything goes, or the HardBody class if keeping it scale is important to you.
Our course is modular and changes every few months. When you buy your crawler from Houston RC, you get invited to private events and 100% of the proceeds go towards further enhancements.
We also offer rentals on our course. $15/hr.
