How to dominate Kyosho's Box Stock class

How to dominate Kyosho's Box Stock class

After selling north of 500+ MR-03s, and setting up 400+ of those specifically for racing, we've learned a thing or two. It also helps that both the North American Kyosho Box Stock, and EVO5600 Champions are from our local club - Houston RC Racers. It also helps that as hosts to the first North America Kyosho Mini-Z Championship Cup, we got to learn and work closely with Kyosho America on their MR-03 and MR-04 chassis.

Are you ready to take your Kyosho box stock racing to the next level? In this guide, we will explore the key strategies and techniques to dominate the competition. Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned racer, these tips will help you improve your performance and increase your chances of success.

Understanding the Rules

Before you hit the track, it is essential to familiarize yourself with the rules and regulations of Kyosho box stock racing. Make sure you know the restrictions on modifications and upgrades allowed in this category. By following the rules closely, you can ensure a fair and competitive racing environment for all participants.

Optimizing Your Setup

We recommend starting with a 98mm or 102mm MR-03W as your first chassis/kit. Don't overthink the body. Focus on a W-MM or W-LM.

One of the most critical aspects of box stock racing is optimizing your setup. Pay attention to the weight distribution, tire wear, and suspension settings of your Kyosho vehicle. Small adjustments can have a significant impact on your performance on the track. Experiment with different setups during practice sessions to find the perfect configuration for your driving style.

Mastering the Basics

Success in Kyosho box stock racing often comes down to mastering the basics. Focus on developing your driving skills, including cornering, braking, and acceleration. Practice consistently to improve your lap times and racecraft. Remember, precision and consistency are key to achieving victory in competitive racing. Train yourself to drive 4 minutes at a time (at HRC a new 4 minute session starts every 5 minutes). While its good to know your single 'fast lap', its best to focus on the 'consistency %' displayed on the screen instead. Do this every time you get on the track to practice, and you'll be setup for success. After driving a few sessions, check your tires for wear and tear, and check the screws that hold the T-Plate for side to side play. Get in the habit of checking these two parts every 12 sessions (2-3 race days).

We recommend buying the following items for dominance in this class.

By following these tips and strategies, you can enhance your performance in Kyosho box stock racing and increase your chances of dominating the competition. Remember, success in racing requires dedication, practice, and a willingness to learn from both victories and defeats. Good luck on the track!

More Tips:

- after a few days of driving in stock form, look into performing a KINGPIN flip. Youtube it.
- don’t use the stock plastic wheel nuts, use the aluminum HRC wheel nuts. save the plastic wheel nuts for installing wings in the future.
- have a set A and set B for wheels/tires. It’s a spec class so it’s the same tires on both sets, but keep set A for races and set B for practices and qualifying. Typically if a set is on its first 12 sessions (each session being 4-5 minutes) it’s set A and will be reserved for races. If a set has more than 12 sessions than it’s set B. Once a set has over 24 sessions on it, it’s time to retire it.
- learn what DR or DUAL RATE stands for on your radio and use it daily. Tires are new? 70-75% DR . Tires are old? 80-90 DR . Avoid using more than 95 DR%, instead get new tires.
- the differential that comes in the kit, runs well as is. Resist opening it up or putting grease in there. You can go 2-3 months of racing before you have to service it in this class.
- install a 9T pinion. You’ll gain about 5-6kmph over the stock 6T pinion.
